Richmond International Airport sets new annual passenger record

Richmond International set a new annual passenger record of 4.37 million in 2019, airport officials reported Jan. 28. The new record total exceeded the previous mark (set in 2018) by 7.4 percent.

And with a passenger traffic count of 381,767 in December, the airport also exceeded the totals from December 2018 by 12.7 percent. The growth marked the airport's 27th consecutive month of record traffic.

Last year, the airport also reported annual increases in total cargo, gaining 1 percent to 140 million pounds handled, and in aircraft operations, showing 5.3 percent growth in aircraft movements when compared to the previous year.

Total cargo, measured as a sum of freight and mail, increased 2 percent in December versus the year-ago period, while total operations gained 7.6 percent over December 2018.
