Richmond International Airport reported an all-time record of 431,416 passengers for May 2023, surpassing the previous record of 398,592 (established in August 2019) by 8.2 percent. The May total also represents a 15.9 percent increase over the same month a year ago.

“Achieving a milestone such as this would not be possible without incredible support from the traveling public and from our air carriers,” said Capital Region Airport Commission president and CEO Perry J. Miller. “We are definitely back on course, growing to support exceptional travel experiences for our customers.”

During the month of May, Spirit Airlines began daily service to Las Vegas, Breeze Airways began service to New York-Islip; Jacksonville, Florida; Providence, Rhode Island; Cincinnati, Ohio and Los Angeles; and Sun Country began service to Minneapolis/St.Paul, Minnesota. Delta also began service to Minneapolis/St. Paul in June.
