Travelers arriving or departing through Richmond International Airport can experience a piece of the Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship, thanks to the installation of a replica of the tournament's basketball court, complete with a hoop, which is now on display on the airport's upper-level connector.
It will remain in place for the duration of the event, which takes place March 5-9 at the Henrico Sports and Events Center.
The court, measuring regulation width and nearly half the length of a regulation court, is located on the Departures Level pre-security, offering a unique photo opportunity for fans and visitors. The display is a collaboration between the Capital Region Airport Commission, the Henrico Sports and Entertainment Authority, OrthoVirginia, and 288 Travel, aimed at showcasing the Richmond region and its connection to the event.
"We are proud to partner with the A-10 Conference, the Henrico Sports and Entertainment Authority, OrthoVirginia, and 288 Travel to bring this excitement right into our terminal," said Perry J. Miller, president and CEO of the Capital Region Airport Commission.
The court consists of 26 individual tile decals and was installed in six hours Feb. 15. The court is available for public viewing and interaction but is for display purposes only and not meant for competitive play. RIC guests can walk across the tiles with their carry-on items and other belongings.
