The Richmond Corporate Games, an Innsbrook and regional staple that has brought business teams together for a day of athletic competition to benefit Special Olympics of Virginia, will not take place as scheduled Sept. 28, organizers announced Tuesday.

"After careful consideration, the Innsbrook Foundation team has decided to postpone this year’s Richmond Corporate Games event," Innsbrook Foundation Executive Director Yvonne Mastromano wrote in an e-mail. "We have decided that we would like to refashion this event to better reflect your interests."

Organizers will send an electronic survey to participants seeking feedback about what they would like to see the games include, Mastromano said.

"You have brought so much enthusiasm and energy to this event as you enjoyed the tug of war, obstacle course, canoe races, volleyball and so much more," she wrote to participants.

Mastromano encouraged participated to make donations to Special Olympics Virginia even though the Corporate Games won't be held as scheduled. Donations may be made online at https://impact.specialolympicsva.org/campaign/richmond-corporate-games-2019/c242362.

"[C]ontributions over the years to SOVA have had a large impact on the SOVA budget and their ability to provide programming for their athletes in RVA and their ability to send an athlete to the World Games each year," Mastromano wrote.

There is no timetable for when the games may take place again, but organizers intend to communicate with participants again when they've determined their next steps.
