Table of Contents

The driver of a cement truck who was shot May 2 by Richmond Police after apparently backing into two Richmond Police vehicles following a pursuit that ended in Henrico County has been charged with attempted aggravated murder.

Giovanni Giordano Roggiero II, 31, of Richmond, was driving the truck, which was being pursued in the city by Richmond Police at about 4:50 p.m. that day. The pursuit ended in the area of Dean and Rodney roads in the Brittons Hill Farms subdivision of Henrico, adjacent to Staples Mill Road and I-64.

A preliminary Henrico Police investigation appeared to show that Roggiero intentionally backed into the two Richmond Police vehicles, which were occupied by officers. Both vehicles suffered moderate to significant damage, and one officer fired at the truck, striking Roggiero inside and injuring him. He was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries but later recovered and was discharged. He is currently being held at Richmond City Jail.

In addition to the murder charge, Roggiero also faces charges of felony vandalism and felony eluding. Additional charges may be forthcoming, according to Henrico Police, who are investigating the crash and the shooting as two separate incidents.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Det. Noah at (804) 501-5581 or to submit tips through Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000 or by going to P3tips.com; both Crime Stoppers methods are anonymous.
