Table of Contents

UPDATE, MARCH 13, 3:24 P.M. - This event has been postponed due to the COVID-19 health crisis.

Registration is now open for the 16th Annual Richmond Youth Peace Summit, to be held March 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pine Camp Cultural Arts Center, 4901 Old Brook Road.

The event is open, free of charge, to all Central Virginia young people ages 10-19; registration is required for participation. Participants can earn four hours of community service credit by attending. Groups are welcome and lunch will be provided. Teens and anyone who wants to support the event as a volunteer can register at rpec.org/summit2020.

The Summit will open with a panel of local artists and organizers responding to the theme of “Creative Responses to Community Conflict." Following the opening session, participants can select from a variety of interactive, one-hour workshops that will help provide them with tools to respond to and overcome community conflict and experiences with violence. Workshops – many of them youth-led – will include conflict resolution, advocacy and activism, job interview skills, self-care, mindfulness, positive relationship-building, and self-expression through art and culture. The Summit also includes a midday performance by talented local young musicians, dancers, and poets.

The Youth Peace Summit is organized by the Richmond Peace Education Center as a part of the Richmond Youth Peace Project program for teenagers, in collaboration with Youth Violence Prevention Week. For help with registering or bringing a group, contact RPEC at youth@rpec.org.
