Richmond International Airport witnessed a record number of March passenger traffic this March, with 385,113 travelers using the airport (a total that surpassed the March 2019 level of 366,582 by 5%).

It was the first time passenger traffic in any month had set such a record since before the onset of COVID-19 more than three years ago.

The March total this year represented a 15.3% increase over the same period a year ago.

“This breakthrough to record territory, after having passenger totals affected by COVID-19 for 36 months, is certainly welcome news,” said Capital Region Airport Commission president and CEO Perry J. Miller. “We’re in growth mode and foresee more reports of this nature as several new routes come online later this spring.”

The airport will welcome some new route in the coming days and weeks, including:

• daily flights to Las Vegas on Spirit Airlines, which begin May 6;
• new service to New York-Islip, Jacksonville, Los Angeles, and Providence on Breeze Airways, beginning May 18;
• twice-weekly service to Cincinnati on Breeze Airways, beginning May 19;
• twice-weekly service to Minneapolis/St. Paul on Sun Country, which begins May 19;
• daily service to Minneapolis/St. Paul on Delta, which begins June 5.
