RHHD officials urge residents to be vigilant about food, toy recalls

With the arrival of the holiday season, officials from the Richmond and Henrico Health Districts are reminding residents to stay vigilant about food and toy recalls.

"Recalls protect consumers when a safety issue is found in food or in consumer products like toys," said Cindy McKelvy, RHHD's environmental health manager. McKelvy emphasized the importance of checking pantries, refrigerators, freezers, and children's toy collections for any recalled items.

Recalls may be issued for various reasons, ranging from missing allergen labels to burn and fire hazards. RHHD officials recommend checking for recalls online regularly at Foodsafety.gov and SaferProducts.gov.
