A look at how some Henrico restaurants fared on their most recent health department inspections.

DEC. 2

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, 8121 Brook Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: no handwash signage located in the men’s restroom; no temperature measuring device located in the prep cooler; observed chicken under warmer at incorrect temperature; observed top of warmer unit soiled with flour; fan grates in walk-in cooler are dusty.

Sunrise Assisted Living of Richmond, 1807 N. Parham Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: observed small dish in handsink in main building service station (handsinks are for handwashing only); observed pink and black mold on plastic panel of the ice machine in main kitchen; observed wet nesting of metal pans under prep table in the main kitchen; box of single service cups found on the floor in Dogwood building; cutting boards in the main kitchen’s prep sink are heavily scratched; observed debris inside of knife holder, on shelves throughout, on hood filters, in between equipment, on racks and under grill on cookline in the main kitchen; observed heavy grease inside the right oven in the main kitchen; observed debris on convection oven and shelves in the main service station and debris on and under shelves and on bottoms of reach-in units in both Dogwood and Azalea buildings; observed debris on counter under the convection oven in the Azalea building; handsink is slow to drain in Azalea building’s employee restroom; observed debris on floors under equipment including walk-in and walk-in freezer in the main kitchen; walls in main kitchen are stained; fan guards in walk-in cooler are dusty.

Grapevine II Restaurant, 11055 Three Chopt Road – No violations reported during a follow-up inspection.

Dogwood Terrace, 10300 Three Chopt Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: no consumer advisory is posted for undercooked eggs; observed trays lined with paper; floor behind the dish machine and wall behind molasses in the storeroom are soiled.

Peter Chang, 11408 W. Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: facility does not have a current certified food protection manager; person in charge could not identify the “big six” reportable foodborne illnesses; observed raw chicken incorrectly stored over eggplant, and raw scallops incorrectly stored next to cooked noodles in the low boy; observed raw whole ducks hanging over prepared foods and sauces in the walk-in with a sheet pan soiled with blood used as a catch pan; observed a dark substance on the interior plate of the dish machine; temperature of egg drop and hot ‘n sour soups is too low; meats and prepared sauces in the walk-in were cooling in deep containers with lids; observed many fly strips hanging over food prep and storage areas in the kitchen; observed linens used as a cover for food (tofu and fried chicken); observed wet wiping cloths stored on the counters; cloths stored in sanibuckets did not contain sanitizer; observed rice scoops stored in standing water; observed knife stored in between equipment crevices on the cookline; light bulb is out under the hood system; facility does not have test strips for measuring sanitizer concentrations at the three-compartment sink and sanibuckets.

Turmeric Indian Cuisine, 3621-C Cox Road – The following violations were reported during a follow-up inspection: foods were found undated (goat, cauliflower, rice, etc.); improper cooling method being used for rice.

Verena at the Glen, 10286 Brook Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: observed an unlabeled spray bottle of deodorizer; bag of panko found on the floor in storage room and boxes of frozen food found on the floor in walk-in freezer; multi-quat does not have sani test strips; fan grates of ice machine need cleaning.

Firehouse Subs, 9069 Staples Mill Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: facility does not have a certified food protection manager; temperature of water in steam well is not hot enough; some red cutting boards have deep scratches; back dish rack is dusty; chemical rack is rusty; observed a small leak under the front handsink; observed debris under refrigerators.

Takara Ramen, 9468 W. Broad Street – No violations reported during a follow-up inspection.

Chianti Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria, 1304 Gaskins Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: facility does not have a certified food protection manager; observed raw chicken incorrectly stored above ready to eat foods; dish machine has 0 ppm after sanitizer; can opener found soiled; small make table has elevated temperatures (salami, mushrooms, feta, mozzarella); temperature of profiteroles in display case is elevated; cooked pasta in walk-in and cooked onions on counter were incorrectly covered; hood lights are not working; observed water standing in the bottom of the middle make table; baking pans are not smooth; lower shelves on the cookline are dirty; keg box is dirty; lower wall of dish area is soiled; ceiling is stained; some ceiling panels are not smooth and cleanable.

Waffle House, 3202 E. Parham Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: high temperature dish machine is not meeting the required 160 degrees; temperature of diced tomatoes at the cookline is elevated because the container they’re in is too shallow for the unit’s air flow; observed torn gaskets in the four-door reach-in unit near the hot holding area and in the two-door Delfield unit at the front service area entrance; observed grease, spills and food debris on and in equipment along the cookline; lower portion of the walls in both the front and back dish areas are soiled.

Cook Out Store, 1501 Eastridge Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: facility does not have a certified food protection manager certificate; observed black and pink mold surrounding the ice chute on top of the ice machine in drive-through area; observed debris on scoops in the dessert station that were stored clean and debris on slicer on shelf where onions are stored next to the prep sink; temperatures of egg nog and cheesecake in the refrigerated doors at dessert station are elevated because the doors are not closing all the way; frozen fries stored out at room temperature did not have a written time receipt; time receipt for lettuce stored in the low boy unit on the line was printed beforehand and therefore was inaccurate; observed two chemical bottles hanging on a rack where condiments are stored in the drive-through area; observed fly tape with dead flies hanging from the ceiling next to dried goods in the dry storage area; observed wet nesting of pans at the three-compartment sink; observed uninverted to-go trays and to-go cups on the line; observed torn gasket in the low boy unit; refrigerated drawer in milk shake station is not closing all the way; air temperature of sandwich unit (used to store hot dogs, raw burgers and raw chicken) was elevated; cutting boards on the line and at three-compartment sink are heavily scratched; observed heavy grease/debris on hood filters, under stove and in between equipment on the cookline; observed sticker residue on pans on shelf above the three-compartment sink; observed debris on floors throughout the facility and on the hood system’s light bulbs, and heavy grease accumulation on wheels under fryers; wall behind ice machine in drive-through area is dusty; wall behind soda boxes and ceiling near drive-through area are stained; observed heavy debris/litter on floors under equipment on the cookline and in the drive-through area; observed debris and heavy ice accumulation on floors of walk-in freezer and on pipes; observed standing water on floors in the dry storage area.
