Canastas Chicken, 11424 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: open can of beer and an open cup of coffee are out on the expo line; container of cut lettuce found inside hand sink (hand sinks are for handwashing only); cut steak incorrectly stored over sauce buckets in walk-in cooler; various raw meats in sealed plastic tubs are stored next to and on top of each other in multiple refrigeration units; raw shell eggs incorrectly stored over vegetables in walk-in cooler; rack used for raw chicken preparation is stored directly next to drying rack for clean dishes with no protection between the two; plastic bins used for food storage have food debris and dark stains; observed mold inside ice machine and along outer door; temperature of two whole chickens in hot box is too low; temperature of large sauce bottles is elevated; date marking on foods in walk-in cooler is inconsistent; observed fruit flies in mop sink area and a dead roach by the back door; products incorrectly stored directly on the floors of kitchen, freezer and walk-in cooler; plastic food containers with old labels for peeled garlic are being washed and repurposed to store various foods; cardboard and unsealed wood are lining shelves in kitchen; unsealed wood is covering parts of back kitchen wall; wire racks are rusted throughout kitchen; walk-in cooler racks are extremely rusty; walk-in cooler condensor is dripping water into a bucket on the floor; observed food debris on exteriors of table top blenders, walk-in cooler racks, fridge gaskets, walk-in door gasket, drying racks, exterior of microwave and interior surfaces of lowboy coolers and freezer; drip trays are dirty and lined with foil; kitchen ceiling over kitchen entrance door and ceiling vent over walk-in cooler are dusty; lid of grease trap by back prep sink has a large hole and is emitting a foul odor; hood filters are greasy.

KFC, 9000 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: wash cloth found inside hand sink (hand sinks are for handwashing only); there is buildup underneath soda nozzles along with ice machine in drive-thru area; temperatures of fries and corn on hot line are too low; observed two small flies in mop sink area; walk-in cooler has a torn gasket; sides of Henny Penny on cook line are coming apart; observed buildup/debris on racks and shelves throughout, on floors and walls throughout, on hood filters and in between equipment on cook line; there is low grouting on floors throughout facility; observed mold on ceiling vent in dry storage/soda area; ceiling vents in dish area are dusty.

Minilandia Ice Cream & Candy, 4062 Crockett Street – No violations reported during a routine inspection.

MAY 26

King’s Wok, 5223 South Laburnum Avenue – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: observed gaps above and below back door where pests could enter; shrimp, wings, egg rolls and sauce in the walk-in cooler are uncovered.

Roots Natural Kitchen—Richmond, 6602 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: observed food debris on multiple slicers stored clean; internal sanitizing temperature for high temp dish machine doesn’t reach the required temperature; improper cooling methods observed for tofu (containers wrapped in saran wrap and stacked on top one another) and bulgur (deep containers wrapped in saran wrap and stacked); temperature of brown rice in steam table is too low; temperatures of kale, cheese, chickpeas and hard boiled eggs are elevated; temperatures of cooked mushrooms, sweet potatoes, black beans, chickpeas and kale are elevated because of improper cooling methods; plastic Lexan pans are stacked while still wet; to-go trays in front and back of house are stored uninverted; cutting boards at to-go station and on shelf under prep table are scratched; observed debris on shelf under hot line and outside of pans on clean rack; ceiling vents and tiles in front and back of house are dusty.

El Amanecer, 4806 Nine Mile Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: ceiling tile in the dish room is not smooth and easily cleanable; several items need to be repaired (back door wooden frame, hole in the wall next to mop sink, floor coving at mop sink area and near dish sink).

Brecotea, 9125 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: pink mold found on bottom edge of ice machine’s metal panel; grab-and-go items don’t have proper labels; utensils are not stored uninverted on shelf on front line; there is debris on racks in back kitchen and on bottoms of cabinets on front line; mops are not being hung to air dry; sticker residue found on walls; ceiling tiles are stained; ceiling vent in back kitchen is dusty; there is low grouting on floors in back kitchen.

Casa Grande Restaurant, 10120 Brook Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: bar hand sink doesn’t have paper towels or hand soap; temperatures of lettuce, cheese and tomatoes in prep unit are elevated; containers are stacked while still wet on shelf; there are torn gaskets on main prep unit, drawers under grill and walk-in; racks in walk-in are rusty; prep sink has a leak; women’s restroom doesn’t have a trash can with lid; there is low grouting throughout the kitchen; floor of walk-in is in disrepair.

Gino’s Ristorante Pizzeria, 10118 Brook Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: raw chicken incorrectly stored on same shelf as deli meat in reach-in; raw shell eggs incorrectly stored next to tomatoes in walk-in; no date marks found on deli meat or pasta noodles in reach-in; racks in walk-in are moldy; fans of walk-in unit are dusty; observed buildup and/or dirt on racks next to pizza oven and above chest freezer and on gaskets on units, especially the glass slide door unit.

The Beach House, 4040-B Cox Road – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: packaged raw whole muscle beef incorrectly stored directly on top of a tube of raw hamburger; can opener is dirty; shredded cheese placed directly into prep unit while cooling (cool foods in the walk-in before placing on line); mixers at the bar are stored in perforated cups inside of the ice used in drinks; Lexan pans are stacked while still wet; gasket on white reach-in freezer is torn; racks in beer cooler are rusty; fan guards in walk-in freezer and large portable fan in dining room are dusty; beer cooler walls and ceiling are moldy; walls in the dish area are dirty; juice is spilled on the floor next to point-of-sale in the bar; walls and coving behind equipment at the parrot bar are dark with stains; ceiling vent and speakers over the dish area are dusty; kitchen floor finish is wearing off; entrance to the beer cooler is dented.

El Rey International Supermarket, Inc., 6006 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: facility doesn’t have a certified food protection manager; open drink cup found near prep station; an employee failed to wash hands and change gloves after handling raw meats; an employee washed a cutting board but didn’t sanitize it; meat slicer has food debris more than one day old; observed staff cooking raw beef, chicken and shrimp together (it is suggested to cook raw meats separately as they all have different cooking times and temperatures); temperature of cooked chicken is too low; two cans of pesticide found in kitchen (pesticide cannot be used); grill cleaner incorrectly stored next to oil and to-go containers; utensils are not stored inverted; wood shelves in kitchen are unsealed; cooked rice improperly cooling in plastic bags in walk-in cooler; reach-in freezer has a torn gasket; wire racks throughout kitchen are rusty; water is leaking from pipes under three-compartment sink; there are holes in walls throughout kitchen; floor tiles throughout kitchen are cracked; floors under hot line and walls behind hot line need cleaning.

Hooters of Richmond, 7912 West Broad Street – The following violations were reported during a routine inspection: two hand sinks are missing hand soap; temperatures of chicken wings and boneless wings on prep line are too low; observed an infestation of small flies under bar sinks; several fryer baskets are in disrepair; wire racks in coolers at the bar are rusted; prep unit and single cutting boards are heavily scratched and stained; observed buildup of grease and food debris on fryers, under grill, inside reach-in coolers/freezer, on oil filter machine, prep surfaces and black mats, racks, and fan grates and sheet pans in walk-in coolers; soiled wiping cloths found stored under grill; hand sink at cook line has a leak; observed damage to walk-in cooler (walls, floor tiles broken, door frames heavily rusted); observed buildup of grease and food debris on floors and walls throughout kitchen and bar; floor in mop room is no longer smooth and easily cleanable.
