Registration for the fall season of Girls on the Run of Greater Richmond is now open for participating elementary schools across Greater Richmond.

Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based, positive youth development program that builds confidence in girls in grades 3 through 8 and inspires them to set a path toward a healthy lifestyle. The program brings together groups of 10-15 girls for a 10-week program that teaches critical life skills and encourages personal development, team-building and connection to the community.

Led by volunteer coaches (many of them teachers), each team meets twice a week for 75-90 minutes, either before or after school. The girls participate in research-based lessons that use discussions, activities and running games to teach life skills. The season culminates in a celebratory 5k event that brings together family, friends and community members to celebrate the girls’ growth throughout the season.

Registration for the program ranges from $30 to $185 per girl for the 10-week program, and includes 5k registration, lessons, materials, a program shirt and water bottle. Reduced fee teams and financial assistance are available to ensure as many girls as possible can participate.

The fall season begins Sept. 16. To register, and for details about community partnership opportunities, sponsoring a participant, and bringing Girls on the Run to your child's school, visit gotrrichmond.org.
