Red Cross blood donors needed following severe weather

Extreme winter weather has forced the cancellation of American Red Cross blood drives across the country; in Virginia, more than 300 units of blood went uncollected due to cancelled blood drives.

The American Red Cross is urging healthy individuals, especially those with type O blood, to give now to ensure blood products are available for patient emergencies. The need for blood is constant, even during snowstorms and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Donors are asked to schedule an appointment prior to arriving at the drive and are required to wear a face covering or mask while at the drive. To protect the health and safety of Red Cross staff and donors, it is important that individuals who do not feel well or believe they may be ill with COVID-19 postpone donation.  Appointments can be made by downloading the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enabling the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device.

In Henrico, drives are available on the following dates at these locations:

• Feb. 24 from 11:45 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. at Innsbrook Blood Donation Center, 11:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Emerywood Blood Donation Center, and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Staples Mill Rd. Baptist Church (10101 Staples Mill Road).

• Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at VCUHS - Parham Road (7818 East Parham Road), 9:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at Innsbrook Blood Donation Center and Emerywood Blood Donation Center, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Richmond Volleyball Club (2921 Byrdhill Road).

• Feb. 26 from 7:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Innsbrook Blood Donation Center and Emerywood Blood Donation Center, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Men’s Wellness Centers (4050 Innslake Dr.).

• Feb. 27 from 7:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Emerywood Blood Donation Center and Innsbrook Blood Donation Center and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Heights Church - Henrico (12440 Gayton Rd.).

• Feb. 28 from 7:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., Innsbrook Blood Donation Center, from 7:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Emerywood Blood Donation Center, and
from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Trinity United Methodist Church - Richmond (903 Forest Ave.).

• March 1 from 11:45 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. at Emerywood Blood Donation Center and Innsbrook Blood Donation Center.

• March 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen (2880 Mountain Rd.), 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Varina Ruritan Club (8081 Recreation Rd.), 11:45 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. at Innsbrook Blood Donation Center and 11:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Emerywood Blood Donation Center.

• March 4 from 9:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at Emerywood Blood Donation Center and Innsbrook Blood Donation Center, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Regency Mall (1420 North Parham Rd.).

• March 5 from 7:15 a.m. at 2:15 p.m. at Innsbrook Blood Donation Center and Emerywood Blood Donation Center.

• March 6 from 7:15 a.m. - 2:15 p.m. at Emerywood Blood Donation Center and Innsbrook Blood Donation Center and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Regency Mall.

• March 7 from 7:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Innsbrook Blood Donation Center, 7:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Emerywood Blood Donation Center, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church (4495 Springfield Rd.) and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Regency Mall.

• March 8 from 11:45 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. at Emerywood Blood Donation Center and Innsbrook Blood Donation Center.

• March 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Good Shepherd UMC (9155 Hungary Rd.), 11:45 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. at Innsbrook Blood Donation Center and 11:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Emerywood Blood Donation Center.

• March 11 from 9:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at Innsbrook Blood Donation Center and Emerywood Blood Donation Center.

• March 12 from 7:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Emerywood Blood Donation Center and Innsbrook Blood Donation Center.

• March 13 from 7:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Innsbrook Blood Donation Center and Emerywood Blood Donation Center and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Knights of Columbus Pump Road (2324 Pump Rd.).

• March 14 from 7:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Innsbrook Blood Donation Center and 7:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Emerywood Blood Donation Center.

• March 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Weinstein JCC (5403 Monument Ave.), 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Varina Public Library (1875 New Market Rd.), and 11:45 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. at Innsbrook Blood Donation Center and Emerywood Blood Donation Center.
