Racist social media posts do not include Henrico students, school officials say

Photos posted and shared on multiple social media accounts that were alleged to show students from a Henrico County high school mocking the death of George Floyd do not actually include any county students, according to the school system.

The Citizen received several of the images anonymously. One depicts a white male kneeling over another white male’s neck, in a staged photo, while another image that appears to be from a Snapchat account contains a derogatory statement about blacks and a photo of a white female and white male.

Henrico Schools Director of Community Engagement Andy Jenks told the Citizen that school system officials checked into the accusations as soon as they learned about them.

“[W]e looked into it right away, and fairly quickly determined that the young people depicted in these posts are not Deep Run students,” he wrote in an email. “We’re not even certain they’re in Virginia.”

An online search found the same images in various social media sites, with some users saying they came from Florida and others saying they came from the United Kingdom.
