Seventh-grader James “JC” McGee from Quioccasin Middle School in Henrico County is the statewide middle school division winner of the 2024 Jingle Your Way to a Safe Holiday Jingle Contest, sponsored by Youth of Virginia Speak Out About Traffic Safety, the Virginia State Police, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and State Farm.

The contest was started to challenge students between the ages of 11 and 19 to create a safe driving jingle (short song or tune) to promote buckling up, as well as celebrating and driving safely throughout the holidays. A judging panel selected the top six jingles in the high school division and top five in the middle school division for public voting Dec. 8-11 and then members of the public cast votes to determine the winners.

McGee will receive a $200 prize for his effort. (View his winning entry here.)

“We were very impressed with all the jingles and can’t wait for everyone to view and share them on social media," said YOVASO Program Manager Mary King." What a fun way for teens to encourage each other to buckle up and drive safely!”
