Poll finds Virginians will travel more this summer

A new poll from AAA Travel reports that Virginians are more likely to be traveling this summer, despite the highest gas prices in years.

According to the results, 61% of Virginia residents are planning a summer trip of 50 miles or more, with 32% having plans to travel much more in the upcoming season. Additionally, the poll found,, 20% of Virginians are planning their first summer trip since the pandemic, and more than 40% are creating multiple trips.

More than 40% of locals said they haven’t considered the price of gas when determining their travel destinations but did consider it when weighing the length of their trips and how to budget for them. About 45% indicated that they would be taking shorter trips because of the cost of gas, with 15% saying that they would adjust according to their budget.

Forty percent also said that their COVID-19 concerns had eased, while 25% indicated that pandemic-related travel concerns have eased more for their destinations.
