PlanRVA seeks community feedback on reduction of greenhouse gas emissions

Table of Contents

PlanRVA, the region's planning district commission, last year received a $1 million grant to fund climate action planning efforts in the Richmond Metro Statistical Area, which includes 18 localities and five local tribes. As part of the federal government’s Justice40 initiative, the CCAP includes a workforce development analysis to assess the benefits of climate action and ensure that low-income and under-resourced communities, which are disproportionately impacted by pollution and climate change impacts, receive support.

The CCAP aims to develop short- and long-term greenhouse gas reduction strategies across sectors, including agriculture, buildings, industry, energy, transportation, and waste. It will evaluate current and projected emissions and set ambitious reduction targets for 2030 and 2050.

The public is invited to participate in the development of the CCAP through a variety of means, including a new survey, virtual and in-person community ideation sessions, and other opportunities.

The survey closes June 28. The CCAP is due to the Environmental Protection Agency in August 2025.
