Tuckahoe District School Board member Bill Pike will not seek the seat on a permanent basis, he told the Citizen Thursday night.

Pike was appointed to serve the final 15 months in the seat last fall after longtime Tuckahoe representative Lisa Marshall resigned for health reasons. He reached the decision not to run in the Nov. 5 general election after discussing the idea with his wife and family, he said.

"I am honored to have been appointed to serve out this term," Pike said in a statement. "It is my goal to continue to put my time, energy, and effort into representing the students, parents, faculties, and staffs in the Tuckahoe District schools.

Pike's term, along with the terms of the other four current board members, will conclude at the end of the year. All five seats are up for election in November. Winners will serve four-year terms through 2023.

Marcie Shea, a former science teacher at Freeman High School, has filed to run for the Tuckahoe seat in November. Other candidates may file through June 11. Shea and former House of Delegates candidate Melissa Dart were the other two finalists considered for the Tuckahoe appointment last fall that went to Pike. Both women indicated then that they would seek the seat during this year's election.
