Table of Contents

Henrico County has reported its first COVID-19 death of someone in his or her 20s, according to the Virginia Department of Health. It is also Henrico's first COVID-19 death of someone under the age of 40. The gender of the victim was not immediately known.

Two other deaths attributed to the virus also have been reported in the county since yesterday as well; both were over the age of 80. The county’s total death count from COVID-19 is now 190, according to the Virginia Department of Health.

The county’s moving 7-day positivity percentage of new cases also has spiked dramatically during the most recent two-day period – from 6.2% Aug. 22 to 8.8% Aug. 24, the most recent date for which the data is available. (By contrast, the state average is 6.8%.)

The spike likely is the result of several days of lower-than-normal testing encounters, even as the number of confirmed new cases day over day remained relatively steady (between 13 and 40 new cases each day from Aug. 18-24).

Forty-three new cases in Henrico have been reported since yesterday, bringing the county's total to 4,510. The county has had four new COVID-related hospitalizations, as well.
