Pedestrian struck, injured on Ridgefield Parkway

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while walking along Ridgefield Parkway Dec. 15, and police have charged the driver with driving under the influence.
It happened just after 6 p.m. that day near Ridgefield Parkway and Gayton Centre Drive. A responding Henrico Police officer determined that the pedestrian was walking on the roadway when the vehicle struck.
The driver, 69-year-old David J. Weimer, was charged with DUI. The pedestrian is hospitalized with unknown injuries.
Police are reminding pedestrians to use sidewalks whenever possible and to avoid walking in the roadway – or if walking in the the roadway, to walk facing traffic.
