Walter Roscoe Norwood, Sr., "Pop," age 91, of Henrico, entered into the glorious presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 31, 2022. As he said, he lived a good, long life and he and his family were blessed by God.

Walter was born January 13, 1931, in Vance County, North Carolina, and loved going to school because that meant he could skip work in the tobacco fields. He continued his education after high school, becoming a computer operator and then a computer programmer. Retiring from Henrico County's data processing department as a Computer Systems Engineer after 27 years of dedicated service was a proud moment for him. Upon retirement, Walter and his wife, Edna, enjoyed camping and going to baseball games.

Walter was known in the Lakewood retirement community as a kind, gentle and humble gentleman with a friendly smile. By nature, he was very regimented and disciplined, and residents and staff often commented they could set their clocks by his schedule! He will be greatly missed.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Willard Norwood and Lucy Greene Lyles, beloved wife of 60 years, Edna Mills Norwood; son, Walter Randolph Norwood; daughter-in-law, Brenda Kirby Norwood; and great-grandson, John Henry Hisey. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Jean Monk; children, Darlene Norwood Peyton (Alvin), Debbie Norwood Ward (Julian) and Walter R. Norwood Jr. (Loretta); 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
