Bottoms, Violette Frances Abraham, 94, of Glen Allen, VA, passed away peacefully at home on October 18, 2024.
Frances was born in Richmond on August 9, 1930. She was the daughter of Frank and Bahegia Abraham, who immigrated from Lebanon in the early 20th century. She was a 1948 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and a retiree of the Commonwealth of Virginia Community College System.
Frances was a fashionable dresser, a fastidious housekeeper, an avid gardener and, like her mother before her, an excellent cook. She loved her family and shared her joy of cooking and her old family recipes with her children and her grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Tata.”
She cherished her friendships. In her retirement years, she was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed dinner and theater outings, attending Arts in the Park, and trips to the mountains around Charlottesville.
During the pandemic and thereafter, Frances “attended” Sunday worship services at First Baptist Church via television. She rarely missed a sermon.
Frances was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Leo Anthony Bottoms, Jr., and her brothers, Victor and Emile Abraham. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Helen B. Tarantino (Tony, deceased), Leo Anthony Bottoms, III (Lee) and Alecia B. Wood (Kenneth); grandchildren, Lindsay W. Brown, Laura B. Mattal (Paul), Andrew V. B. Tarantino (Jessica) and Scott R. Bottoms (Kelsey); and great grandchildren, Nicholas, Noah, Dawson and Lucas Tarantino; Susannah and Marina Mattal; Layton and London Brown; and Juliette and Lainey Bottoms.
The family appreciates the love and care given to Frances by the staff of At Home Care Hospice and caregivers Naomi Bey, Evelyn Sills-Williams, Nancy Gitati and Erica Moore-Hutchinson; and special friend Adele Stinnie.
Funeral arrangements are private. Family will gather to celebrate Frances’s life at a later date. Contributions may be made in memory of Frances Bottoms to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
