Suzanne Bynum Craig, 74, died on January 13, 2021 after a brief stay in the hospital. She was wife to James Richard “Rick” Craig, Jr. for 50 years and mother to their beloved daughter, Amanda Lee Craig.

Suzanne was born in Henrico County on December 5, 1946, daughter of the late James Speight Bynum, Jr. and Ruth Munro “Shine” Bynum.

Suzanne attended Virginia Tech where she earned a B.S. in Education. She was a dedicated Physical Education teacher to thousands of middle schoolers in Henrico County Public Schools for 36 years. She was an avid doll collector and applied her abundant creativity and talent in many directions including doll maker, crafter, seamstress, and quilt maker. Suzanne was loved by all who had the pleasure of her company. She brightened a room with her wonderful sense of humor and quick wit. She accepted everyone just as they were, and all were made to feel welcome in her presence. She filled her home with love and shared that love with those around her. Suzanne loved to spend time with her husband, daughter and best friends of 51 years, Jane and John Monacell of Richmond. She especially enjoyed their trips to Nags Head, North Carolina where she enjoyed the wildness of the sea and the many beautiful sunrises. She loved seashells, mermaids, and Jimmy Buffett and she loved her shopping trips to the outlets. Suzanne also loved all things Disney and was planning her next trip to Disney World as soon as she could travel. She was a lifelong member of Willis United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband and daughter, Suzanne leaves behind four loving sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, two nieces, two nephews, three grandnieces and one grandnephew.
