Shirley Throckmorton Lawhorne, 89, of Varina, passed away in her home surrounded by her family on Monday, August 26, 2024.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl T. Lawhorne, Sr.; and her parents, Carrington Throckmorton and Katie Throckmorton Oliver.
She is survived by her loving son, Carl T. Lawhorne, Jr. (Elizabeth); daughter, Donna L. Ford; grandchildren, Christi Walker (Doug), Andy Walker, Jr. (Krystle), Sam Lawhorne and Christopher Lawhorne (Kelley); great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Karley Chandler, Kayleigh and Madilyn Walker, Nick, Austin and Logan Lawhorne.
Shirley was a stay at home mom. She was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church, Sandston American Legion Auxiliary Unit 242 for 45 years, and a member of Sandston Moose Lodge for 3 years. She loved playing Bingo, going to Rosies and other casinos and shopping. She was a loving mother, nanny, and nanny Shirley, and will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends 4 – 8 pm, Wednesday, September 4 with a moose service taking place at 7 pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave, where a funeral service will be held 12 pm Thursday, September 5. Interment will follow at Washington Memorial Park, with a reception following at Sandston Moose Lodge.
