Shirley Anuszewski, age 85, of Sandston, Virginia passed away peacefully on June 9, 2023 with her daughter and granddaughters by her side.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Anuszewski; her parents, Simon Creekmore and Sarah Emma Ryan; her sisters, Thelma Lambert and Lucille Hicks; and her brothers, James Creekmore and Lloyd Creekmore. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Spiller (Will) of Highland Springs, Virginia, and her two granddaughters, Casey Spiller and Emily Spiller, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Shirley was born on June 10th, 1937 in Wise County, Virginia, the youngest of 5 children. She graduated from Castlewood High School in 1955 and moved to the Richmond, Virginia area, where she started work as a machine operator at First & Merchants National Bank before moving up to nighttime supervisor. On April 18, 1960, she married U.S. Air Force sergeant Robert (Bob) Anuszewski. They had their daughter, Sharon, in 1965. The family moved around the country and the world for various deployments until Bob’s untimely death in 1974.

After her husband’s death, Shirley moved to her home in Sandston, Virginia, where she lived for nearly 50 years until her passing. She continued working in banking until finding her place at the Virginia Department of Taxation. She worked there for more than 25 years as Manager of Business Tax before her retirement in 2007. Outside of work, Shirley loved to spend time with her family, read novels, watch her favorite show (Days of Our Lives), and do puzzles of all kinds. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed.
