Obituary - Shirley Ashley Guess

Shirley Ashley Guess, 85, of Henrico, was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 10, 2025.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Shirley lived a life devoted to Christ and was a bright light with a kind and sweet soul. She most enjoyed spending time with her loved ones, family gatherings, playing games, and pulling pranks. She had many hobbies that included woodworking, gardening, and playing softball. Shirley was a tax accountant and retired after 27 years at Wachovia. She serviced in several churches throughout her life and was a member of Varina Baptist Church. Her servant heart and love for Christ shined in her everyday life and she will be deeply missed.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Philmore and Bessie Ashley; brothers, Henry, Bud, and Stuart; husband, Frank Guess; and son, Frankie Guess. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Kathy Weeks (Mike), Sheri Newcomb (Jimmy); grandchildren, Crystal Holloway (Brandon), Allen Weeks, Taylor Conway (J.C.), Jimbo Newcomb; great-grandchildren, Jade Ann, Grady, Jett, Emmett, Baker, Frankie; sisters, Barbara, Carrie, Jean (Carl), Ann (Mike); brother, Darrell; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231, where a funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, February 21, 2025. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, alz.org/donate.
