Following college, she returned to Richmond, teaching elementary school in both Chesterfield and Henrico Counties. She taught school until she was blessed to become a mother. Her children were an immense source of pride, and she was steadfastly their biggest cheerleader.

Sara valued her faith, family, and friendships. She loved the Lord, and studied His Word regularly with her Bible study group. A longtime active member of First Baptist Church, Sara regularly attended Sunday School, volunteered in the Clothes Closet of Community Missions, and traveled on multiple mission trips to Slovakia where she taught conversational English. She was an active member in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Tuckahoe Woman’s Club, the Commonwealth Chapter of the NSDAR, Jamestown Society, and the Garden Club of Virginia. After college, she traveled to Europe several times as a bachelorette. Sara and her husband, Jim, traveled the world taking numerous trips to Europe as well as Japan, Singapore, Turkey, Panama, and Alaska to name a few. Perhaps her favorite destination though was the Bahamas, where she frequently traveled with family and friends.
