Sandra Sue Barnthouse, 82, of Richmond, Virginia, died on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. She was born August 1, 1942, in Earlsboro, Oklahoma to Dr. and Mrs. Vincent G Devine. She was preceded in death by her sister, Charline Adair, and her parents.

Sandra is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Jere; their children, Michael Barnthouse of Enid, OK, and Heather Barnthouse Schroeder of Richmond, VA; their spouses, Kim Barnthouse and Chris Schroeder; and their grandchildren, Joshua Michael Barnthouse and his wife, Michelle, Christopher Lyon Schroeder, Jr., and Mary Devine Schroeder.

Sandra grew up in Nicoma Park, OK, and graduated from Choctaw High School in 1960. Sandra and Jere first met in the second grade at Nicoma Park Elementary School. They reconnected many years later, working in the same bank in Oklahoma City, and were married in August of 1966. In 1971, they moved to Lawton, OK. Sandra was a loving, gentle, and devoted wife and mother during this time. While caring for the home, she also worked in property management, but her favorite job was working in the field office for U.S. Senator Don Nickles. Sandra enjoyed interacting and problem-solving with constituents. She loved to tell the story of when the field office received calls complaining about the loud noise of the artillery fire from Ft Sill, and she would, with a smile on her face, remind them that the noise they were complaining about was the sound of freedom! Her sense of humor, always present, entertained us all. Sandra cherished being outside; whether floating in her pool or working in her beautiful yard, she loved the Oklahoma sunshine, and no weed stood a chance in her yard. She was also very active in her church choir in Lawton and continued in choir at their new church when they moved to Richmond in 2008. She particularly enjoyed being involved in the annual production of The Living Christmas Tree at First Baptist Church in Lawton for many years.

Sandra leaves behind a legacy of love and a hopeful, determined spirit that she modeled for us all. We would like to thank the staff at Westport Nursing and Rehabilitation for all of the care they have provided for Sandra.
