Robert Byrd Light (Bob) passed away peacefully on September 28, 2022 at the age of 96. He was born July 30, 1926 to Wesley and Jessie Light and grew up in Collingswood, NJ. After high school he entered the Army Air Corps and was a WWII veteran, honorably discharged. He attended Drexel University and received a B.S in Chemical Engineering. Following graduation, Bob met and married his beloved wife of 62 years, Audrey Eastvold Light and raised three daughters, Robin, Carlene, and Cynthia. He worked for INA (now called CIGNA) for over 43 years, becoming a manager in the commercial insurance division until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed traveling, playing poker with his buddies, following the stock market, attending church, spending time with family and friends, and sharing his dry sense of humor. Bob lived in the Richmond area on Woodman Rd. and faithfully attended Christ Lutheran Church for 64 years, serving on the church board and committees and working tirelessly for the church and its ministries, food bank, and maintaining the property. Bob was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was a good friend to countless people. He leaves behind many who loved and treasured their time with him. He is survived by his three daughters Robin Light Patrick (Joker), Carlene Light McGinty (Kevin) and Cynthia Light Brown (Phillip); nine grandchildren, Seth (Caitlyn), Kelly (Sean), Patrick (Candace), Emily, John (Drew), Anne, Nick (Chau), Katie (Giel), and Grace; six great-grandchildren, Annabel, Hudson, Declan, Velzy, Kealia, and Augie; two sisters Martha Mason and Jessie MacGregor; sister-in-law Pastor June Eastvold; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 9 at Christ Lutheran Church, 7809 Woodman Rd., Henrico, VA, 23228, where his funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday October 10, with a reception to follow. Interment 3:00 p.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Cemetery with military honors. The family respectfully requests no flowers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church or the Lamb’s Basket Food Bank (lambsbasket.org).
