Robert Charles Accomando, of Glen Allen, Va., a resident of Beth Sholom Home, formerly of Sherman Oaks, Ca., went home peacefully to be with his Heavenly Father on April 14, 2020 at the age of 81 after his recent diagnosis of COVID-19. Robert was born in Astoria, Queens, NY on March 24, 1939 to the late Michael and Helen Accomando.

Robert attended William Cullen Bryant High School in Long Island City, NY where he played catcher and second basemen for their 1955 and ‘56 City Champs Baseball Team. His high school baseball team played their championship games at Yankee Stadium, which was a dream come true for him. After high school graduation, he was offered a baseball contract with the Boston Red Sox, but unfortunately, due to an ankle injury, he had to turn them down. He went to Mondale Institute for Drafting and later attended New York Institute of Technology and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering in the study of heat transfer. Robert served in the National Guard Reserves for 7 years.

Robert was a Professional Engineer and an owner of several real estate and building operations companies throughout his long career. He loved baseball and watching his favorite team, the New York Yankees, play. He loved playing the game of golf, running marathons and spending time with his family and friends. Robert is survived by his wife, Suzanne; his daughter, Deborah and her husband Vic Vuturo of Glen Allen, Va., his daughter, Lisa and her husband Richard Scibird of Santa Barbara, Ca.; and his step-daughter, Suzanne Karlson of Toluca Lake, Ca.; his 8 grandchildren; his brother and sister in-law, Michael and Lenore Accomando; and 1 niece.
