He was born July 31, 1938 in McComas, WV and moved to Richmond around 1963. He was married to the love of his life of 62 years, Minnie June whom he greeted in Heaven on Thursday, February 3, 2022. Oscar Agnew was a family man who loved his wife and family and was proud of their accomplishments. He had several titles and roles through his life other than Dad or Daddy. He was known as “Rev” because he was a Pentecostal minister and preached the Gospel to many over the years under what is now Redemption Ministries. He most recently attended West End Assembly of God. He was “Mr. Agnew”, the owner of Agnew Sewing Machine Repair Service in Lakeside, and many respected him as a business man and for his unending skill and knowledge of how a sewing machine worked. He was not afraid to try to fix things which others could not. He was “Oscar” to many who were his friends or former co-workers at Sears where he retired from in the 1980s. He was “Benny” to family and people who knew him longest. He was known as a hard worker with a determination and drive that kept him going even when he was tired. He was known to be creative and an artist and used his talents in his ministry. He is credited with inventing and patenting the reflective safety vests which are now so common but years ago were non-existent. He was a generous, fair and humble man who was willing to help anyone. He will be greatly missed by many including “Cat” his constant furry companion.
