Nancy Carlene Floyd Midgette, 87, of Glen Allen, VA, previously of Chesapeake, VA, quietly entered her eternal life on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. Born in Norfolk, VA, on March 17, 1936, Nancy is predeceased by her parents, Elliott Dennis Floyd and Esther Virginia Workman Floyd, her brother William Frederick Floyd, her aunt, Nancy “Sugar” Workman Sargeant Parker, and her dearest friend Jane Wallace. Nancy met her true love and devoted caregiver, Paul, in 1957, and they were married on June 27, 1958, in Norfolk, VA. Together, Nancy and Paul raised three children: Susan M. Vance (Tim) of Greenville, SC, Brian P. Midgette (Lisa), and Courtney M. Fuller (Wayne), both of Richmond, VA. Nancy graduated from Maury High School in 1954, and went on to study Art History at Sweet Briar College and Medical Technology at Old Dominion University. Nancy had a full and rewarding career as a medical technologist at Norfolk General Hospital and as a Medical Technology instructor at Old Dominion University. However, she followed her true passion as an artist, developing and sharing her gift, creating hundreds of lovely works of art over many years that will continue to be treasured by her family and friends. Nancy worked in both watercolors and oils, was a Signature Artist and Lifetime Member of the Virginia Watercolor Society. She and Paul enjoyed attending and participating in many art shows and festivals during her career as an artist. Other hobbies included gardening, sewing, needlework, backyard birding, and adopting stray cats. Nancy is survived by Paul and their three children, seven grandchildren, Carlene R. Vance, Stephen C. Vance (Julia), Sarah E. Vance, Chelsea N. Midgette, Channing E. Hessberg (Nathaniel), Jackson E. Fuller, and Katesby R. Fuller, as well as two great grandchildren, Jeremy Finn Vance and Poppy Hayes Hessberg. Additionally, she is survived by several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to the wonderful nurses from Affinity Hospice, the nursing and support staffs in the Emergency Department and on the Cardiac Pulmonary Renal Unit at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, and the many caregivers from Visiting Angels. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Parkinson Association, the Michael J. Fox Foundation, or The Cultural Arts Center in Glen Allen, VA. A graveside service will be held Monday, May 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Maury Cemetery in Richmond, VA.
