Matthew LaMotte, 50, of Midlothian, Virginia, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024, due to complications of cancer. He is survived by his wife Kathleen Lawrence LaMotte, his sons Matthew Lawrence LaMotte and Thomas James “TJ” LaMotte, his parents, Ross and Wendy LaMotte, and his brother, Ross N. LaMotte.

Matt dedicated his life to education, leaving an indelible mark on the thousands of students he taught at Sherando, Tucker, Powhatan, and Godwin High Schools. Known for his passion for Technology Education, including teaching woodworking, photography, videography, and computer skills, Matt inspired his students to embrace creativity and technical expertise. His legacy lives on through the skills and knowledge imparted to his students, who continue to benefit from his guidance.

Beyond the classroom, Matt found joy in Star Wars, playing guitar and woodworking. He cherished time spent with his wide circle of friends, who now mourn his loss alongside his family. Above all, Matt treasured his wife and children, finding his greatest fulfillment in their love and companionship.

Matthew LaMotte will be remembered for his dedication to teaching, his creativity, and his unwavering love for his family. His influence on his students and community will continue to resonate for years to come.

A memorial service to celebrate Matt's life will be held at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, VA, 23229 on Wednesday, December 18 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
