Lucie A. Meredith, age 97, originally from Cumberland County, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 22, 2024. Mrs. Meredith was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Paul S. Meredith. She is survived by one daughter, Betty Hudson (Rod); two grandchildren, Ben and Cole Hudson; three nieces, Lynn Gabay and Robyn Schultz, both of Richmond, and Paige Mims of North Carolina; one deceased niece, Gayle Whitaker; and one nephew, J.B. Hurt (Diane) of Crozet, Virginia. Mrs. Meredith was a long time member of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church. She graduated from State Teacher’s College (now Longwood) and started her career as a teacher at Lakeside Elementary School in 1948. She later became a guidance counselor at Brookland Middle School until her retirement in 1987. Upon retirement, she became an avid bowler, bowling in two or three different retirement leagues a week! She also enjoyed all types of needlework…knitting, crocheting, embroidery, cross-stitch, and sewing, and participated in many local craft shows. She also loved to read, usually reading over 100 books a year, until her failing eyesight prevented her from doing so in recent years. Somehow, even without much eyesight or hearing, she was still able to play bingo…and usually won her fair share of games!
