Kay Jones Meyer, 64, of Henrico, died entered life eternal at Bon Secours Community Hospice House on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Carl Robert Meyer; their children, Matthew Meyer of Henrico, Sarah Meyer Flood (Brandon) of Staunton, and Rebekah Meyer Douglas (Sean) of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren, Penelope, Isla, and Oliver Flood; her sister, Martha Jones Canada (Fontaine) of Bridgewater, and two brothers, Robert Jones (Bonnie) of Montpelier, and Steven Jones (Pam) of Richmond. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Howard, and Nancy Weiler Jones, of Richmond. Kay was born in Richmond, November 9, 1957. She was a graduate of The College of William and Mary, where she and Carl met and sang together in the college choir. She went on to teach classroom music until she became a mother, and later taught in the elementary classroom and worked with individual students as an educational therapist in Arlington and Fairfax, and as a volunteer educational therapist in Washington, D.C. Kay was loved and admired by her colleagues and students for her generous attention and extraordinary devotion to meeting each child’s unique needs. She served Jesus by serving His children. Kay was a member of City Church of Richmond, and for many earlier years of McLean Presbyterian Church. Over the years before her illness, Kay was an active servant-volunteer in numerous ministries, especially music and children’s. The family plans to have a private graveside service on the morning of October 1. Following, will be a memorial service which will be held at City Church, 1627 Monument Ave., Richmond (Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church) at 1 pm with a reception to follow at the church. The West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home is overseeing arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either The Elijah House or Imago Dei Schools of Richmond.
