Obituary - Karen S. Stamey

Karen S. Stamey, 56, of Lakeside, Virginia passed from this world on Thursday, January 19 after suffering a sudden and severe stroke. She will be sorely missed by all who were privileged to have known her.

Karen was born on October 4, 1967, in Charleston WV. The youngest child of the late Charles S. Green, Jr. and Mary M. Colgan Green. She is survived by by her husband, Larry L. Stamey; and 13 brothers and sisters: Charles R. Green and his wife, Mary, Linda K. Williams and her husband, Thacker, Elizabeth J. Green, Catherine N. Green, P. Joseph Green and his wife, Glenda, Jonathan L. Green and his wife, Debbie, Mary J. Colgin and her husband, Curtis, Thomas A. Green and his partner, Rhonda, Patrick C. Green and his wife, Christine, Margaret I. Casto and her husband, David, Lisa A. Friddle and her husband, Harold, Paul F. Green and his wife, Zaye and Matthew L. Green and his partner, Jenny. She also leaves behind 26 nieces and nephews, 35 great nieces and nephews and countless friends who loved her dearly and will miss her beyond explanation.

Karen was a gentle soul, who always had a song in her heart and a hand to help anyone in need. Her love for children and animals and her passion to make the world a better place for them directed a lot of her choices. She was passionate about justice for the poor and underprivileged and often reached out to them with food or anything else she could offer.

Making a career in the service industry at Henrico County Schools, Karen managed the cafeterias at Douglas Freeman High School and Lakeside Elementary School. Most recently Karen was employed at Restaurant Depot.

Karen was creative and artistic in verse, sculpting and painting, but kept her work private. Although she never profited from any of her artwork monetarily, we who were privileged to know her profited both emotionally and spiritually. Karen was a great gift and this world was more beautiful because of her presence. She will not be forgotten, but will live on in the memories we have and the lessons we learned from her about loving and respecting others.

In honor of Karen, her family will be hosting a memorial service at Joseph Bryan Park in honor of Karen on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at shelter #1 between the hours of Noon and 5:00 p.m. We will have some refreshments and memorabilia of Karen. All friends and family are welcome to attend.
