Karen Elizabeth Thomas went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, following three years of debilitating illness.
Karen was born in Richmond, Virginia on June 12, 1959, to the late Warren and Betty Graham Thomas. Karen’s brother Richard Russell Thomas also preceded her in death. She is survived by six nieces and nephews, Luke, Lindsay, Justin, Danielle, Tyler, and Conner.
Karen graduated from Douglas Freeman High School and Virginia Commonwealth University. She was a devoted teacher at Brookland Middle School in Henrico County for 42 years and was a faithful member of West End Assembly of God Church for 28 years. She loved her students and was committed to helping them learn through games, and classroom projects. She was always looking out for students who needed school supplies and extra help.
Karen worked faithfully at WEAG on the audio team every Sunday. She was always the 2nd person in the door early on Sunday mornings; 2nd only because she didn’t have a key! She was also involved in international mission projects, most notably two trips to Kenya as a member of WEAG construction teams. Karen was also a dedicated member of the Music and Fine Arts Ministry of WEAG, serving as a choir member, production performer and front of house manager for several decades during the Easter and Christmas productions. She served tirelessly wherever she was needed.
She was well loved and will be missed by friends, family, co-workers, and brothers and sisters in Christ.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2025 at Affinity Funeral Service Richmond Chapel, 2720 Enterprise Pkwy, Richmond, VA 23294.
