June Alice Murphy, 90, of Richmond, Virginia, died on September 24, 2024, at the Bon Secours Community Hospice House. She was the wife of Patrick J. Murphy, and the mother of Patrick Murphy (Diane) of Lee, New Hampshire, Ellen Bradley (Steven, deceased) of Richmond, Virginia, Timothy Murphy (Sandy) of Pasadena, Maryland, Kevin Murphy (Katie) of Cumming, Georgia, Sean Murphy (Linda) of Atlanta, Georgia, Eileen O’Connor (Patrick) of Great Falls, Maryland, Erin Smithdeal (Wilson) of Fairfax, Virginia, and Courtney Etheridge (Gary) of Wilmington, Delaware. She had 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

June was born on May 21, 1934, in Palmerton, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Cedar Crest College and soon after started teaching elementary school. June was married to Patrick for 63 years, and together they raised a family of eight in Fredericksburg, Virginia. They were faithful members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and very involved in their children’s education at Montfort Academy. Her love of children called her back to teaching after her youngest started school. In Fredericksburg she was an active member in the local Garden Club and WINGS, Women in the Giving Spirit, a volunteer group that helped numerous local charities.

In 2005, Patrick and June moved to Richmond. They joined St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richmond where they made lifelong friends. They were also members of the Richmond Country Club. There they gained friendships that have sustained them for almost 20 years.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 30th, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Affinity Funeral Service, located at 2720 Enterprise Parkway, Richmond, VA 23294. A funeral service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Road, Richmond, VA 23229 on Tuesday, October 1st, at noon. A reception will follow at the church. Burial is scheduled for 2:00 at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 12609 Patterson Avenue, Richmond, VA 23238.
