In Memory of Joseph Hrubik April 27, 1921 – February 5, 2022

HRUBIK, Joseph, 100, of Glen Allen passed away at his home Saturday. Absent from the body, present with his Lord. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Maria Knab Hrubik; his wife of 24 years, Helen Dorothy Trpka; his wife of 45 years, Sarah Illich Feldman; and six brothers: Emil, Michael, Carl, Paul, Daniel, and William. He is survived by his children, Lois Banyai of Christiansburg, VA.; Jeffrey Hrubik (Becky) missionaries in Brazil; Shirley Jones (Robert) of Ashland, VA.; his stepchildren, Denise Reynolds (Douglas) of Fort Lauderdale, FL.; Valerie Lewis (Jim) of Stuarts Draft, VA.; and Laura Harwood (Jon) of The Sea Ranch, CA. “Papa Joe” had 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Mildred Lytle of Texas; Julie Wadel of Florida; and Irene Tiffan (Art) of Colorado.

Joe grew up in Akron, Ohio. He earned his B.S. from University of Akron after having served in World War II in the Armored Medical Battalion in Europe. He moved to Richmond in 1949 and served 30 years as Lay Pastor at Apostolic Christian Church in Henrico County, and then as an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Richmond for more than 32 years. Joe retired from Transamerica Life Insurance Company after more than 30 years in the insurance industry and lived a full, happy, and productive life in serving his Lord.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 18, at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. His funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, February 19, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 3601 Monument Ave. Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missionary Fund at Immanuel Baptist Church or pazinternational.org.
