Joseph Earl Brooks, Jr., with both sorrow and joy, we celebrate the life of Earl Brooks, who passed away peacefully on July 8, 2023, at the age of 86. Born on September 4, 1936, in Tappahannock, VA, he was beloved by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his brother, Charles. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Barbara; and sons, Brian (Erin) and Kevin (Brandi). His greatest joy was his four grandchildren, Parker, Casey, Riley, and Grayson. Though he is gone, Papa will forever be loved and missed dearly.

Earl graduated from Warsaw High School and Smithdeal Massey Business College. He enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in the procurement field that culminated with his retirement from Crestar Bank in 1997.

Earl enjoyed many hobbies including collecting coins, an interest that he shared with his sons and oldest grandchild. He was a faithful volunteer at Henrico Doctor’s Hospital for over 20 years at the visitation front desk. He never met a stranger and loved delivering flowers to patients. Earl was a member of Warsaw Baptist Church before moving to Richmond and became an active member of Derbyshire Baptist Church. At Derbyshire, he served as a deacon, participated on numerous committees, and sang in the Golden Tones Senior Choir. The family wishes to extend our deepest appreciation to all who cared for Earl during his illness, including the healthcare professionals and caretakers at Spring Arbor and Medi Hospice. The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Derbyshire Baptist Church with a reception to follow. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Derbyshire Baptist Church.
