WARMAN, John Waring, 103, of Henrico, Va., passed away on June 18, 2023. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Alice Eliza Lee Glass Warman, to whom he was married for 72 years; parents, William Rymond Warman and Adelaide Lancaster Waring Warman; and his devoted group of siblings, Elizabeth Rymond Warman Drake, Philip Creveling Warman, William Rymond Warman and Blair Harvie Warman Sinclair. He is survived by his daughters, Janet Lee Warman and Blair Lancaster Warman Nickle (Dennis); grandsons, Alexander Warman Nickle (Nicole) and John Louis Nickle (Amber); seven great-grandchildren, Maddux, Wyatt, Evy Grace, Isla, Jude, Dansby and Adelice.

After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, John worked for C&P Telephone Company before being drafted into the U.S. Army in World War II. He received the Bronze Star “…for heroic service in connection with military operations in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany during the period of 10 October 1944 to 8 May 1945. As wire crew chief, he displayed courage and efficiency in the maintenance of vital communications in the face of enemy fire.” After his discharge from the military, he worked in special operations for C&P and AT&T telephone companies in Richmond and Petersburg. For many years, he volunteered with the Pioneers to repair Talking Books for the visually impaired.

Upon his retirement, John and Alice most enjoyed square dancing, Mastin class activities at Trinity United Methodist Church, and traveling in the U.S. and abroad. A quiet man with a gentle heart, John will be missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of his life will take place 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 24, at Bliley’s, 8510 Staples Mill Road. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment will follow at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Avenue, Richmond, Va. 23229.
