Obituary - John Robert Cross

John Robert Cross, age 91, died at home on August 30th, 2023. He is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Linda Campbell Cross of Richmond; three children, J. Robert Cross, Jr. of Richmond, Ann Cross Hastings (John) of Glen Allen, and Richard H. Cross (Karen) of Sarasota, Florida. He also leaves five grandchildren: Thomas M. Ramage (Megan) of Oakton, Allison Ramage of Alexandria; and Jessie Faye Cross, Ryan Cross, and Jake Cross of Sarasota, Florida.
Bob was the son of Everett and Annie Lamberth Cross. He attended the public schools of Henrico County and graduated from Glen Allen High School where he was editor of the student newspaper and President of the Senior Class. He was an Eagle Scout in Boy Scout Troop 60 and a member of the Order of the Arrow.
Bob graduated from Washington & Lee University where he was a member of Sigma Nu and Phi Beta Kappa. He edited W&L’s student newspaper, The Ring-tum Phi. He was employed by C&P Telephone and Bell Atlantic in Richmond, Baltimore, and Washington for almost 40 years before retiring as Comptroller of Bell Atlantic – Virginia in 1993.
Mr. Cross served as President of the Western Henrico Rotary Club, the Richmond Chapter of the Administrative Management Society, and the Bethlehem Lions Club.
