Jean Padgett Hart, 94, of Richmond died peacefully June 10, 2022. She was born in Charlotte, N.C., the only child of Harold Anson Padgett and Nancy Stutz Padgett, and was reared in Winston-Salem, N.C. Jean was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Philip Ray Hart; and her daughter-in-law, Dorothy Stanley Hart. She is survived by her sons, John Philip Hart and Stephen Anson Hart and his wife Ann Burhans Hart; also by her grandchildren, Anne Larimer Hart, Philip Edward Hart and his wife Remy O’Neill Hart, William Anson Hart and Samuel McLain Hart; and also by her great-grandson, Hugh Kind Hart. A graduate of Salem College, she did post-graduate study at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She was a former middle school teacher at Collegiate School, a member of River Road Church, Baptist, and a former member of the Council of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and of the Tuckahoe Woman’s Club. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Friday, June 17, at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Avenue. There will be a private graveside burial in Hollywood Cemetery.
