James Patrick McGuire, loving husband of 49 years to his bride Linda H. McGuire, devoted father to his children, and beloved Papa to his grandchildren, passed away on December 17, 2023. He was born on March 16, 1950.

Pat (also known as Mac) enlisted in the Army at 18, serving during the Vietnam War. His dedication and commitment to the Army continued throughout his life, serving in the Reserves for 43 years. He retired as Chief Warrant Officer 4, AG. After active service, he embarked on a civilian government career, making significant contributions and earning the respect of his colleagues.

Pat volunteered for 48 years with the Forest View Rescue Squad and held several positions. He was State President from 1989 to 1991. He became a life member in 1991 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1998.

Pat was very active in his church. Among his many positions, his favorite was leading Bible devotions for the Wednesday Men’s Breakfast at Golden Corral.

Pat was passionate about coaching high school softball and “his girls.” He dedicated many hours to coaching the J R Tucker and West End Waves softball teams, impacting many young lives.

His legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter Ashley M Redmond (Brian) and son James Patrick McGuire, Jr (Kaitlyn), and grandchildren Tristan (16), Oliver and Grant (13), Redmond and Aubrie (12), and Trace (9) McGuire. Also surviving are his loving sister, Mary M Freeman, and brothers, Johnny and Bobby. He was preceded in death by parents John and Vernell McGuire and brothers, Harvey and William (Mickey).

Pat will be remembered for his unwavering patriotism, selflessness, and dedication to his family and community. His kind heart and gentle nature touched the lives of many. He will be greatly missed and forever cherished in our hearts.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 22, from 5–7 pm at Bliley’s Funeral Home on Staples Mill Road. The funeral service will be on Saturday, December 23, at 10:30 am at Skipwith Baptist Church. Burial will be after the service at Westhampton on Patterson Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Skipwith Baptist Church, the softball team at J.R. Tucker High School, or the West End Waves Travel Softball Scholarship Fund in memory of Coach McGuire at 9206 Hartley Hill Court Glen Allen, VA 23060.
