James Christopher Dreelin, 69, of Henrico, Virginia passed away on April 8, 2024.

Known as “Chris” to family and friends, he was a steel detailer by trade, but a fisherman by passion. He lived the motto that “a bad day at the beach is better than a good day at work”. His favorite memories included traveling to the Outer Banks to compete in surf fishing tournaments and for family vacations. He started his dream retirement purchasing his own slice of heaven by the beach. If he wasn’t out fishing in the early hours of the day, you could find him sitting on the deck enjoying the view and the breeze. He was always ready to quiz you on your knowledge of classic rock, with an entertaining story from his younger years, or some fatherly advice.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Jan Dreelin; his children, Stephanie Stewart and her husband, Bobby Stewart, and Alex Dreelin; his mother, Jean Dreelin; three brothers, Dan Dreelin (Audrey Dreelin), Shawn Dreelin (Lana Dreelin), and Greg Dreelin (Debbie Dreelin). He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Dreelin.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday May 10, 2024, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 1214 Wilmer Avenue Richmond, VA 23227.

Memorials may be made to support The American Heart Association.
