Harry Hughes, 92, of Richmond, Va., went to be with the Lord on August 8, 2022. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 63 years, Irene Hughes; parents, Everett and Hattie Hughes; sisters, Dora Whorley and Pauline Hill. He is survived by his children, Rita Kennedy (Bruce) and Michael Hughes (Linda); grandchildren, Bryan Thompson (Shana), Justin Thompson (Lindsay), Christopher Hughes, Megan Hughes, and Jenna Hughes; three great grandchildren; and sisters, Ida Kirstein and Ruth Hughes. Harry served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War, for which he received a Purple Heart for his sacrifice. After returning, he married the love of his life, Irene, and went on to a career of over 30 years driving buses for the City of Richmond. Harry was a devout member of Skipwith Baptist Church. He was a fisherman, self-taught guitar player, and avid follower of the news. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. A gathering of family and friends will take place 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. August 15, 2022, at Bliley’s, 8510 Staples Mill Road. A celebration of life will be held 10:30 a.m. August 16, at Skipwith Baptist Church, 1900 Skipwith Road. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Harry’s memory to Skipwith Baptist Church.
