Hamid Mohammed Al-Abdulla, MD, FACP, FACA, FACC, FCCP, of Henrico County, Virginia, passed peacefully on December 1st, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda, as well as his daughter, Susan. He also leaves four brothers, Jasim, Abdul-Amir, Abdul-Sahib, and Najah. He was preceded in death by parents, Mohammed and Fatima, son, Safaa, and sister, Jemila.
He enjoyed a life full of service, practicing medicine in Richmond from 1973 until his retirement in 2004. His private practice thrived despite changes through the decades as he resisted joining a larger group model. His patients appreciated the individualized attention that they received as well as his constantly expanding knowledge base. He obtained his fellowship in Cardiology prior to coming to Richmond and was one of the first Board Certified Physicians in Cardiology in private practice in Richmond outside of the Medical College of Virginia. He held multiple Fellowships including American College of Physicians, American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Cardiology and American College of Angiology.
He was an active member of the Middle Eastern community organizing many social events. He was a founding member of Virginia Chapter of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), the first branch outside of the Washington, DC organization. They sought to maintain peace among many religious and political party lines uniting men and women to have open discussions regarding their differences. He was the President of the Iraqi Graduates Association promoting professionals who would travel and share the culture with those whom they encountered here in the United States.
He enjoyed traveling near and far, globetrotting from Europe to the Soviet Union and cruising around South America, the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and the South Pacific. No place was too near nor far to find adventure. Anyone coming to the house could appreciate his green thumb as he beautified his garden one flower at a time. He liked entertaining and would often have large gatherings at the house, including a private concert by his childhood musical idol Afifa Iskander, whom he became lifelong friends with. He was a collector of antiques, camels, Arabic music, books, and Persian rugs.
