Gisela Antonia Handal, 81, of Sandston passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Michel Handal; parents, Max and Ruth Rechtsteiner; sister, Karin Hauri; and brother, Rene Richter.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Phelps (Chris) and Monique Carpenter (John); grandchildren, Michel, Steven and Austin; sisters, Britta Kloeck and Vera Gover; brother, Juergen Richter; and cousin, Ursula Tucker.
Gisela loved gardening, traveling and baking from old family recipes. Known for her strong will and independent spirit, she left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 18, 2023, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231.
