KING, George T. III, 94, of Richmond, died on January 17, 2022. He was predeceased by Frances R. King, wife of 60 years and son, G. Thomas King IV. He is survived by his daughters, Carroll K. Schuller, Susan L. King and Sarah K. Borda; grandsons, T. Wyatt King, Harrison B. King, C. Taylor Borda (Katya), Henry K. Borda (Alice), Paul H. Borda and Matthew T. King; three great-grandchildren; and his loving partner, Eileen R. Allin.

He served in the Navy during World War II and graduated from the University of Richmond. The morning after his college graduation, he flew to Hartford, Conn., for an introductory course on the insurance industry—the beginning of a fulfilling career that spanned more than 50 years and brought him into meaningful relationships with countless clients, first in his own insurance agency and then as a vice president at Straus, Itzkowitz, and LeCompte.

George and Frankie were longtime members of Trinity United Methodist Church and previously founding members of Christ United Methodist Church. Totally devoted to his family, he was also active in the Kiwanis Club of Tuckahoe, serving in several leadership roles, including as president. George’s commitment to service ran deep; in his retirement, he took an interest in welcoming newcomers, especially refugees, to America. He loved reading memoirs and biographies, traveling internationally, hunting, fishing, and running into friends at the YMCA. He was known for his jokes, thoughtful notes, genteel manners, and enthusiasm for mentoring and championing others in their successes.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and other caregivers at Westminster Canterbury Richmond for their professionalism and tenderness in George’s final years.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Avenue, and also live-streamed (trinityumc.net). Memorial contributions may be made to Church World Service (cwsglobal.org), Trinity UMC or the charity of your choice.
