Obituary - Frederick Richard Geiger

Frederick Richard Geiger, 72, of Glen Allen VA, passed away on December 2, 2022 surrounded by his loving wife and children. He died following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Sophie Geiger. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Lorraine 'Lori' Geiger; children, Elizabeth 'Beth' Wolly (Mark) and David Benjamin Geiger (Lindsay); 4 grandchildren (Jake & Evan Wolly and Oliver & Avalyn Geiger); sister Suzanne Geiger-Keller (Skip) and niece Michelle Elana Faber (Michael).

Fred was a devoted husband, father and grandfather with a zest for life and laughter.

He received a BS from Hobart and William Smith Colleges and a MS in Health Science Education and Evaluation from the University of Buffalo. He spent his career in healthcare professions. He began as a respiratory therapist and later moved into the field of organ donation and transplantation.

Fred was an avid fisherman who enjoyed doing home projects and grew a beautiful garden.

He loved spending time with friends, listening to rock & roll, cooking, and playing cribbage, Scrabble and pool.

Fred drew great joy in building wooden toys for his kids and his grandkids who called him Papa. And being a kid at heart, he was their favorite companion for reading, coloring and making up silly games and stories.

Above all, his favorite pastime was making his best friend in the world - Lori - laugh so hard that her stomach hurt.

The family will receive friends 1:30 to 2:30 pm., Sunday, December 11, at Bliley's, 8510 Staples Mill Road, after which a memorial service will take place. In lieu of flowers, please honor his memory with a donation to Feed More.
