Elizabeth “Betty” Sheehan Sours, 93, of Richmond, Va., passed away on May 21, 2023. She was born on November 4, 1929, to William Terrell Sheehan and Alma Elizabeth Kuykendall Sheehan of Staunton, Va.

Betty was a long-time resident of Richmond, Va. She grew up in Staunton, Va., and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, and attended St. Joseph’s College in Emmitsburg, Md. She was employed by Virginia National Bank, in Richmond, and retired in 1981.

Betty was a devoted member of Oakwood Memorial Baptist Church. She was so special to everyone she met and radiated your heart with her beautiful smile. Her kindness was a natural part of her positive and cheery personality. She had a very full life with many friends, neighbors, and all the new friends she would meet along the way. She never knew a stranger. She loved being involved in her church, and spending time with family, and friends. She was a wonderful lady with so much love and kindness and will be truly missed.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Henry Thomas “Hank” Sours of Richmond, Va.; sister and brother in-law, Mary Terrell “Turtle” Sheehan and C. Randolph Beard of Vero Beach, Fla.; sister, Janet Sloan Sheehan Parkinson of Charlottesville, Va.; brother, William Terrell Sheehan Jr. of Staunton, Va.; grandparents, J. Sloan and Bertha W. Kuykendall, of Romney, W.Va.; uncle, Robert W. Armstrong of Winchester, Va.; uncle and aunt , Robert W. and Mary Ray K. Armstrong of Charlottesville, Va.; nephew, C. Randolph Jr. Beard of Essex Fells, N.Y.; and niece, Janet A. Parkinson of Charlottesville, Va.

She is survived by her niece and husband, Linda Elizabeth Parkinson, and Dave Lacy, of Virginia Beach, Va.; nieces, Deborah Ames Beard of Vero Beach, Fla., and Mary Ellen Beard of St. Augustine, Fla.; special family friend, Tootie Lewis of Richmond, Va.; and other friends are left to cherish her memory.

A special thanks to her “sister-friend,” Tootie Lewis, who assisted in her care for the past 10 years while she was a resident at Chestnut Grove Assisted Living facility in Richmond, Va.; and to the staff of Chestnut Grove Assisted Living facility for their loving care, encouragement, and happiness they provided to her as a resident.

The family and loved ones will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Interment will be follow in Washington Memorial Park.
